College
Courses
If you are interested in pursing a career
within textiles but are not quite sure whats on offer or which route
to take then read on. As you are aware EMTEX support the clothing
and textile manufactrers throughout the East Midlands. From working
closely with local textile companies what is becoming more and more
apparent is the need for more textile specialist people within the
UK. We are all aware of the bad press the textile industry has received
over the last few years, many companies have been unable to compete
with oversea competitors and a vast amount of manufacturing has gone
abroad, however the majority of companies within the UK are companies
who have more niche markets specialising in technical areas, processes
or design. Most of these companies find it increasingly difficult
to find the right specialist person to fill these job opportunities,
due to these changes, and it isn't surprising that there is a lack
of general knowledge of the range of job opportunities on offer. What
is generally found is that many pupils are basically unaware of these
opportunites and of the college courses and training made available
to them, with many still opting for Fashion and Textiles design courses.
In order to give them the edge what a pupil should consider now are
courses that combine fashion with possibly a technical module and
most definately CAD experience. Alternatively ones that combine fashion
with CAD or product and retail management. If pupils are interested
in the technical side then they may even want to follow a path that
focuses on textiles management or colouration, the list is endless.
It is fair to say that it would be a huge task to list every single
Textile/ Fashion course available within the UK. Courses on offer
are quite varied and range from National Diplomas, HNC, HND through
to Degrees and MAs. What we have tried to do is give you an overview
or insight into the sort of courses available, if you do however require
further information then there are also a number of textile training
providers who have sites to visit giving information on courses and
careers.
